If you are acting in a professional capacity - that is, you are a doctor, and you give specific medical advice here - then you might be held liable. If you are a lay person, you are simply giving an opinion. The person receiving your response has to decide if you are likely to be right, and even if they decide you are, and it turns out you are not, then there is no case - you were not selling a service, and you are not addressing a situation as a professional person, just as a lay person.

no if someone is stupid enough to only trust what they hear from ppl on this board then they shouldn't be allowed to use a computer.

i don't think anybody is liable for the advice they give here. ppl posting questions should keep in mind that the ppl at y!a don't know what's going on in their lives. if ppl follow advice from here, it's at their own risk. they should follow their own advice, thoughts and their hearts.
No. You can not get sued for bad advice. This web-site only suggests information.
It's up to you to listen to the advice. Besides, I rarely see anyone list sources of their advice, so no one is really credible. Actually, it should be called Yahoo Opinions...not Answers. It's like if I told someone they'd look good if they shaved their head...and they did and hated it...could they sue me for that? I don't think so.
Actually, no you are not liable. Yahoo has taken care of that through their own disclaimer, which binds all who use this site. Also, you tend to be subjected to a ';reasonable person'; test, and so you must ask yourself whether a reasonable person would take the advice of a person that they have no idea about whatsoever, etc.
They can decide all they want, but they are responsible for their own behavior. No lawyer will touch such a proposed lawsuit.
You just opened a can of worms for our sue concuss society. Now all the nuts looking for a freebie from people just trying to help will be trying to follow up on your question. By the way, our litigious society is a learned behavior. Thanks.

We only answer to what we think is right. We are not attroneys, doctors, vets, or any other people. Our life experiences make up most of the answers. So if some idiot wants to sue and be out all that money in court then I guess they will.
I actually thought of that, but I think this site is use at your own risk. Hopefully somebody wouldn't take the advice to their grave. There are a lot of good answers but there are some crazy answers too.
You wouldn't think so .. but the ACLU.. is out there looking for anything that might be politically incorrect.
The plantiff would have a very hard time tracking down the defendants and the case would gost a lot more than they could recover in damages.
