Should we amateurs attempt to give advice to nutters on this site?

eg ';I'm going to jump off a bridge, which bridge is best for this sort of thing?';Should we amateurs attempt to give advice to nutters on this site?
No. The only advice in this situation would be to refer them to a mental health professional or a very helpful website.Should we amateurs attempt to give advice to nutters on this site?
I don't like the expression ';nutters';, but I think when people ask questions they know they are going to get a range of answers. There's nothing wrong with a bit of common sense.

However people with personality disorders are good at attracting attention to their difficulties and at finding people who may be able to help. They are not always as good at using that help. So on here lots of people with personality disorders ask for and get advice, but because they can't use that advice they ask again. They get temporary relief from the involvement of other people but it doesn't change anything. They also tend to tell what sounds to me like half the story, and their behaviour is then reinforced by caring well-meaning people on this site who give advice and support instead of encouraging them to take responsibility for their actions. However, I don't believe it causes them more problems, and I think it gives some short-term support.

It may be interesting to know whether anyone has ever regretted giving out their email address to someone on here who sounded in need of help.
LOL, no you shouldn't advise them on the best type of bridge lol! That said, a listening ear or a new perspective is sometimes all someone needs to get through what they're going through. Not everyone posting here is a nut btw... mental illness is just that, an illness. Sometimes treatable, sometimes not, but always something that the person is suffering from. The anonymity of this group allows us (yes us, as I suffer from depression myself) to discuss our issues and gain perspective and awareness, and sometimes avert crisis. The question ';which type of bridge is best to jump off of?'; generally means, ';I am considering suicide and KNOW I should be talking to someone, but there's no one around and I need to talk. So we talk. Sometimes it helps.
I think you should give them advice but not how to commit suicide, you should give advice on how to seek treatment as they are clearly distressed and need some help.

As for calling them nutters, maybe show some kindness, they are going through a tough time and are probably feeling very unloved and the last thing the want is to be called a nutter.
no you should not be giving advise to people you are calling nutters....that alone shows that you do not underrstand their situation and is insulting. However many people do find help with situations from people that do understand and/or have been there, even though they are not profesionals.
nooooo dont ever say to anyone kill yourself cause some people might do it ...there was a guy on a programme called paltalk before and he had few issues ect...and the full room was saying to him ';oh just hang urself on cam life ect';'; so he went ahead and killed himself on cam while ppl watched hopelessly..now they have to live with the fact tht they egged him on
no , but then people shouldn't really be asking serious questions here either,

but its fun, and hopefully people have other things in there life's other than the internet.
if they want advice and are willing to take it from amateurs

yes we can give it

but not to do stupid stuff
